TAST 2012 - Barred Chain and Wheatear Stitch

(Click on photo for bigger image)

A little bit of barred chain in green with blue running stitches and a row of wheatear stitch in blue with yellow knots. I still have to find a place for feather, it just doesn't seem to fit the design yet. Crossed buttonhole will go in the next round motif.

Tuesday 24 April 2012

A bit more herringbone

just to finish off this motif.

Friday 20 April 2012

A bit of catching up to do.....................

I've fallen a bit behind with TAST2012, so I've started again on a new slow cloth. This time in happier colours! I'm working in a hoop, on a long piece of cotton batiste from my stash.

So far, on here I have:
buttonhole stitch
cretan stitch
chain stitch
detached chain stitch
fly stitch
french knots
running stitch
split stitch
whipped wheel

TAST 2012 - bit more couching

Long stitches woven in and out - does this count as couching?

Saturday 3 March 2012

TAST 2012 - couching

A few rows of couching using some previous TAST stitches added to my sampler.

TAST 2012 - chain stitch

Not a particular favourite, although I do like some of the variations - raised chain band and interlaced chain band. In this sample I've used plain old chain stitch as a marker for the placement of other stitches.

TAST 2012 - detached chain

Some little bits of detached chain stitch.

On the bottom line of my sampler:

TAST 2012 some more herringbone and a little chevron

I did quite a bit on these stitches in previous TASTS. This time I'm concentrating on composite stitches and lacing.

Some more laced herringbone stitches and a bit of play with chevron. I'd forgotten about chevron stitch - it would be good on my textile figurines.

TAST 2012 - herringbone

I use herringbone stitch a lot. I've just used it to make this heart shaped tag for the Tag Tuesday challenge.

Blog Flog

For those of you who haven't yet discovered it, I just thought I'd like to mention Elizabeth's blog Quieter Moments. Elizabeth started her blog to document her responses to Sharon B's challenges. It's absolutely full of stitch experiments and there is a stitch index in the sidebar of the blog. Elizabeth no longer posts to her blog, but she has kindly left it online for the enjoyment of other embroidery enthusiasts. Do go over and have a look, it's well worth it. You may need to settle down with a cuppa!

TAST 2012 - combining with Cretan!

>

Cretan stitch is one of my all-time favourites. It's got rhythm! I use it a lot on my textile figures and I like to lace it or combine it with other stitches.

It's only Wednesday! What am I going to do for the rest of the week?

Add a couple more rows!

TAST 2012 - buttonhole and feather...

One week late with the buttonhole. Although it's probably my favourite stitch, I think I flogged it to death in previous TASTs!

Buttonhole at the top, feather at the bottom.

TAST2012 - A little bit more fly stitch

You can use it for applique!

A very simple design with shapes cut from washing up cloths, just to try out the effect of using fly stitch for applique.

TAST2012 - stitchin' on the fly!

It's the first week of TAST2012! Find out all about it here.
The first stitch for the challenge is an  old favourite - fly stitch.

This time around I concentrated on stitching in rows:

Here are some close-ups:

I didn't count the stitches carefully, because this linen is a finer count than I would normally use. To help to keep the rows straight I withdrew a thread.

Perle cotton on medium count evenweave linen.
