1 Year of Stitches: 2017

Following the last post, some stitches added to the cretan. I do like a bit of texture!

Seeding between the stitches and to hold down the loops of thread, then a scattering of french knots.

More seeding around these cretan stitches too.

1 Year of Stitches: 2017

Straight stitches in different sizes and directions.

Seeding.

1 Year of Stitches: 2017

The gaps between the oval shapes will need to be filled in with stitches.

Cretan stitch, large and small.

I wanted some texture and the loops of thread were too long. Fill in and catch down with seeding stitch. And some french knots.

More seeding around the cretan stitch. I am hoping for a nice textured effect when I take this out of the hoop.

1 Year of Stitches: 2017

Well, I didn't get very far with that before I got thoroughly interrupted. A serious construction problem in the sitting room meant all the sewing things had to be tidied away ready for a surveyor's inspection. Furniture had to be moved, cameras got lost. I'm sure you know how it goes. I still managed to do a bit here and there, just not every day - but I didn't manage to photograph it.

Herringbone, chevron and seeding stitch and french knots.

Threaded herringbone and french knots.

Making a start on 1 Year of Stitches.............

Still outlining the oval shapes with trellis stitch.

What to do once I've outlined all the ovals, that's when the fun should start. Should I do it like this one?

or maybe this one?

or this one?

or maybe this one?

or something completely different? I've got a bit of time to decide, there's still a few days work outlining those oval shapes.

A New Year, a new challenge.

I have signed up for 1 Year in Stitches. You can find out about it here. It's a perfect excuse to resurrect a UFO that's been languishing for a couple of years. This one:

It's quite a big piece of hand dyed cotton fabric that I've had for a long while. The plan is to stitch the oval shapes in trellis stitch on a foundation of buttonhole, and then the rest will be a free-for-all.

I have a bit more time for stitching now so perhaps this piece will finally get finished!
